I'm Lexie Smith, blog teacher. Blogging and talking to people, especially writers, about blogging are two of my favorite things. As a presenter at the East Texas Christian Writers' Conference, I get to do both.
I began blogging in 2005 because I needed a place to rant about a motherhood book I was reading. Being a homeschooling mom of four, my only public outlet was a local sports talk radio program. I'm a sports fan, but my input was more along the lines of character issues, correct pronunciation of my high school and blogs -of course. Not exactly a good fit. My blog, Lexical Light.com, sparked my writing, creativity and brain.
As I continued to blog, my interest in writing developed. Online I started noticing author blogs, editor blogs, and news anchor blogs. References to blogs in magazines and television also caught my eye. People were even making money from blogs! Studying how traditional writers and journalist used blogs became my specialty.
Of course, being a teacher, I couldn't keep the observations to myself. What to do? First, I developed a workshop to share with other writers. Though my professional writing experience was limited non-existent, I knew I had valuable information to share with other writers. Then, after the 2007 ETCWC it was time to start a blog. An hour presentation barely scratched the surface of the potential for blogging and writing. What more natural way to carry on the conversation than a blog?
So, here I am, building an online resource for other bloggers who want to be writers and other writers who want to be bloggers. It's not the most exhaustive resource, but it has links to enough resources to exhaust you.
As for my off line life, I am teacher by profession and passion. I've taught Sunday school, homeschool, public school and currently teach at a public charter school. I am married the perfect man for me. We have 5 kiddos and two rescued boxers.
Thanks for reading. Be blessed.
