What does it matter if you know the history of Mother's Day? What do you really need to know about it to profit from it? Here's the bottom line. (Get it? Bottom line...profit. Strong handsome husband is a CPA.)
“Honor your father and your mother so that
you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12 (NIV)
2"Honor your father and mother"—which is the first
commandment with a promise— 3"that it may go well with you and
that you may enjoy long life on the earth." Ephesians 6:2-3 (NIV)
That’s it. Find some way to honor your
mother. Not just on mother’s day, but everyday. It’s the first commandment with
a promise.
Honor is to show respect for (dictionary.com).
How do you speak of your mom? How do
you speak to your mom? (Ummm..I need to do that more often.)
If, for whatever reason, you only have
negative things to say about your mom, start with saying nothing.
Does your life honor your mother? Proverbs
10:1 says, “…a wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son grief to
his mother.”
When I hear of some horrific news event
(insert your own here), I sometimes think of the perpetrator’s mom. You know
that’s not what she wanted for her baby. I can’t imagine a sane mom thinking, “I hope Johnny grows up to be a
mass murderer.” How sad. Just another
aspect of life that Satan wants to “steal, kill and destroy”. (John 10:10)
For those of you with healthy, growing
relationships with your mom, keep working at it. Don’t take her for granted.
For those of you with unhealthy or no
relationships with your mom, take heart. It doesn’t have to stay that way. God
can give you wisdom and change your hearts. A book that helped me is The Mom Factor by Cloud and Townsend. It is
an excellent resource to help you deal with your mom relationship.
For those of you whose mom is gone, I pray
God will give you peace this Mother’s Day.
Finally, take a look at these verses from Proverbs that mention mothers.
Be blessed and be a blessing.

Thanks, Kristen. Enjoyed your site. Lots to think about.

Great post!! :) Thanks especially for this: "If, for whatever reason, you only have negative things to say about your mom, start with saying nothing." That applies in so many situations where we should honor someone. Now if I can just keep my big yapper shut...
