The "Other" Library
I jokingly refer to our bathroom as the library.
If a person says they don't have time to read I'll ask, "Do you go to the bathroom?"
I figure it's one of those things people do, read in the bathroom that is, but don't talk about. Not that there's a reason to talk about it. Until now.
Stacy from Mind & Media found an article about reading books well and in less time. Because strong handsome husband recently mentioned I should try to read fewer than 8 books at a time and I'm interested in reading them well, not just reading through them, I jumped over to Stand to Reason. Impressive site. Bookmarked it for future reference to a Christian perspective on "heavy" issues. (Unlike this one.)
Can't wait to use the article. Lots of good tips, including how to find the time to read more. Shut off the TV. Get up a little earlier. "Redeem the time you spend sitting in the bathroom." What?!!!
It seems with just 10 minutes a day of reading even a slow reader can read 150 pages. Wow. Now I have a little back up when I suggest reading in the "other library'". (Pun not intended, but not deleted, either.)
Seinfeld connection: So far the libraries I use don't have a "book in the bathroom" detection system.

Meg,
Thanks for commenting. I do read in the "other library" a lot. I'll also take a book out w/me when I watch the kids rides bikes and I usually keep one in the van. I also read a bit before bed, sometimes.

How are you doing on finding time to read with 4 kids at home?
This summer the balance is shifting back the other way in our family. After a few years of working like crazy all summer while my husband did more of the kid duty, I'll have more unscheduled time at home with the kids. A most welcome change.
I am bound and determined to spend a good bit of that time just reading, and I'm hoping it rubs off on my younger daughter (the older one inhales books). It's been far too long--I've done too little nonwork reading since my first daughter was born, and if I want to make a go of writing for publication, I need to learn a whole lot more.
But then there's the guilt factor....
Still, I'm determined to do it.
And not just in the bathroom.
So--how goes it for you?
Meg

Glad you liked the link, Art.
Of course you're reading more books than me!

Thanks, Grandpa. I guess you would have problems with one bathroom if you had two "regular" readers. Good thing we have 3 bathrooms.

I think that is the best place to read, no distractions. If you onle have one bathroom
then there may be a problem if more than
two people live in the house. If you have
teenagers, forget it, buy an outhouse.

Only 8 books? I am on like twelve right now. I do read them through and through (it might be the reason however that I just finished one I had been working on for six months).
I think that the privacy restroom should go down as the greatest architectural acheivement of the 20th century, hands down.
Love the "Stand to Reason" link, added it to my bookmarks.
